1) Format
Instagram now supports Landscape or Portrait Formats for both video and photos.
“Square format has been and will always be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to.”
What you need to know:
The original square format remains 640px x 640px
Landscape 640px by 340px
Portrait 640px by 780px
Here’s how:
2) Places
A new and awesome search engine is now available. It’s called Places. Hashtags are great but sometimes you don’t know the hashtag of the place you are looking for. Places allows you to check out all the photos taken at a particular location without using hashtags.
I particularly love using this option when visiting a restaurant I’ve never tried before.
Here’s what it looks likes:
3) Ads
If you use Instagram on a daily basis, you’ve probably noticed that you now see ads targeted at you, from Walmart to Mercedes-Benz, they are coming for you! Soon you will start noticing local businesses targeting you on Instagram.
In order to run ads for your business, you will have to connect your Instagram account to your Facebook Business Manager. From there you will be able to run ads from the Facebook’s Power Editor with the ability to use the same call to action buttons.
Important Notes:
With Instagram ads, strong imagery is key. Use photography rather than graphics for better results.
Instagram ads will allow you to target users the same way you can with Facebook ads – meaning you can really segment your users and reach just about anyone you need. The cost per click ads are expected to be more expensive on Instagram compared to Facebook so be wise when choose your content!
